I am a highly qualified Therapist of over 25 years experience working one to one with clients in a helping and therapeutic capacity. During this time I have helped many people find their way through their problems and difficulties. I am based in Shepperton, Surrey close to the M3 and 3 miles from the M25. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and am committed to their ethical principles. I am also a qualified clinical hypnotherapist and can use hypnotherapy to help clients with a variety of different issues to make the changes they want. For more details, please see the Hypnotherapy page.
My career has spanned over 25 years working with young people and adults. My experience and training has included several different approaches to therapy including Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional analysis (TA) and Psychoanalysis. This integrative style means that I can use as many skills and tools as possible in order to help my clients by adapting my approach to suit their needs. In order to keep my skills up to date, I am committed to my own continuing professional development and training. I am also committed to Equal Opportunities and do not discriminate on the grounds of gender, race, sexual orientation or disability.
Counselling/Psychotherapy is essentially a talking therapy where the client can discuss their worries and problems in a safe, caring and empathic environment. Counselling/Psychotherapy can be a very helpful interactive process where I will work with the client to help them find solutions/coping strategies for whatever is bothering them. I will provide a confidential space in a calm and supportive environment and together we will work through whatever is troubling the client.
I use a person-centred humanistic approach which is caring, compassionate and non-judgmental. Where appropriate, CBT techniques of goal-setting and changing thought patterns will be used to make changes that the client wants. CBT is a highly popular therapy which is used by the NHS to treat patients with depression and other emotional issues. My aim in counselling is to help the client to be able to stand on their own feet and to find their own meaning and direction in life. I am passionate about what I do, and as well as seeing clients in my private practice, I have been teaching adults counselling skills & theory for a number of years.
